![]() The teachers’ and students’ perspectives were generated from Likert scale questionnaires through coursebook evaluation. With this regard, this research aimed to investigate teachers’ and students’ perspectives on Challenges 1 coursebook used at International Language Programs (ILP) in Indonesia. Therefore, it is important to evaluate a coursebook and find out the strengths and weaknesses and to assess the suitability of the coursebook with students’ needs and interests. Coursebooks help teachers with syllabus, materials, and practical guidance. In the teaching and learning process, coursebooks play an important role which contributes to the success of language classrooms. Therefore, it is pivotal to investigate how the teaching programs at the English course meet students’ needs and interests. These changes can have an impact on the increasing interest of Indonesian learners to take English courses to get additional assistance for their learning. The new curriculum applied in Indonesia (the 2013 curriculum) provides several changes such as the removal of English as a compulsory subject in elementary schools and the reduction of teaching hours in senior high schools. Such efforts may be better incorporated into the potential decisions required by more flexible, unrestricted, option-based alternative models that recognize the expertise that experienced teachers give. The response data confirmed that experienced teachers were as disturbing as this facilitated and required significant "interventions" primarily needed to provide more effective communication activities. ![]() Both this and official content design identify the heritage of activism and lead to "superficial methodologies" that serve the "guidance needs" of inexperienced non-native teachers as the main user marketplace. This model has been widely criticized for failing to embody genuine nonverbal goals and, as discussed here, failing to embody the key beliefs of communicative language teaching. The coursebook English Firsthand 1 appears to represent the appeal of the "global" market and the general "type" based on the "Presentation Practice Production" model. Another questionnaire has been sent to the ELT issuer. Given the ambivalence recognized for its effectiveness among experienced teachers, a teacher survey was conducted focusing on the popular textbooks used in Tertiary education. As an essential resource in the context of many classrooms, it relies heavily on the "ease of use" and educational value of ELT coursebooks. ![]()
